Easter Week, Oaxaca Mexico

An old tradition of public worship of Oaxaca that has not disappeared is the time Way of the Cross, in time of Lent. People are arriving to Temple.

 

In the Temple of San Matías Jalatlaco, around Jalatlaco Ville and Xochimilco, and from time immemorial, the devotees would gather every Friday of Lent, to practice the Way of the Cross, a ceremony which took place early in the morning to have a further assistance from neighbors in that neighborhood workers who have dedicated themselves to trade of the tannery.

 

The inhabitants of the city came to join devotee exercise, concurring in large numbers to the ceremony in the vestibule, under the branches of trees “coquito” the Jilosúchitl (BombaxEllipticum, is believed to be the scientific name) whose flowers live peculiar form and color, some known as “Angel Hair”. It is decoration of that place. After the Way of the Cross, the participants were to taste the snacks that were sold around the Temple, which also offered carnations, roses, wallflowers and other perfumed species cut at early morning in the gardens of Xochimilco, the Trinidad and Cuatro Caminos, with thus branches decorated the old bridge, now gone because the Jalatlaco River has been piped.

 

Back home in the Centre or in other neighborhoods, they stop in El Llano de Guadalupe, and today after Nezahualcoyotl Paseo and nowadays Paseo Juarez, El Llano, where later and now almost forgotten the devotion to the Lord of Tepeaca, every Friday Lent young people meet to enjoy the freshness and neat site while listening to the Band of the state or the marimba what happens today, and students celebrate with flowers to the most gentle ladies, be more pleasing the gallant stroll.

Matamoros # 102, Downtown. This day commemorates the pain suffered by the Virgin Mary by the death of his son. Installs an altar to the Virgin of Dolores where a program is made solemn blessing of the altar, reading poetry. There is a concert of sacred music by the Choir of the City.

XXVI Procession of Silence. Parish of the Precious Blood of Christ.

It is a mournful procession of nature to express the condolences of the Virgin by the death of Jesus. This procession is quiet on the way of religious images, which come out this day from their churches or parishes beautifully decorated with flowers on a litter, which are held by men and female devotees. The walking starts at the Temple Blood of Christ, Macedonio Alcalá, Xolotl, Garcia Vigil, Independence, Macedonio Alcalá and ending at the Temple Blood of Christ.
